Mr. Nick Boeree - Killed in Motorcycle Crash

I just learned that the surgeon who did my artificial disc surgery in England was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident this week.  Link to article  Another Link I can hardly express my profound shock and sadness at this terrible loss.  Mr. Boeree was an excellent surgeon and one of the most kind and friendly doctors I ever had the pleasure of meeting.  Everyone that I have ever met that had an encounter with him also said the same.  He literally gave me my life back after nearly two years of pain and other failed treatments/surgeries.  I can't help but think of his friends, family, co-workers, and his other patients and how they must feel about this sad loss of such a great man who helped so many.  My heart goes out to all of them.  Thank you, Nick, for all you did for me.

  1. Tim,

I just learned of Mr. Boeree's death today too. I, like you, am in shock. Nick gave me my life back also, when he replaced three discs in my neck with artificial discs a year ago. I will be praying for Nick's wife, children, Jo, his assistant, and the hundreds of co-workers and patients that will be grieving the loss. As you said, he was a generous and kind man. I can't tell you how many emails we traded in preparation for my surgery. He really cared about his patients. The world has lost a great man.

  2. I had an L5S1 disc put in by him a month ago. This is such sad news, he really was a genuine and lovely bloke. His contribution to the world has been significant. He'll be sorely misses by anyone he's been in contact with. It brought me to tears reading it, my heart goes out to his family and friends.

  3. Shocked. Utterly shocked. Lex its Ben I was the double replacement from America. NIck and I had just exchanged emails about riding bikes a week ago. The world has lost an angel. I, too, was given my life back by Nick.

There's windy roads where you're heading sir.

  4. Less than a week ago Nick Boeree responded to one of my emails. I posted a tribute to him on my Medical Holocaust blog.

Nick above all was an ethical doctor who loved his patients more than money. Nick was skilled no doubt but from everything I read about him skill was not his greatest assets. I think his humility and humanity were.

When I read spine forums I read many nice things about Nick Boeree, Karsten Ritter-Lange and Luis Pementa but in the US spine surgery outcomes are rarely good news.

It is my strong belief that artificial replacement disks that surgeons like Mr Boeree used but are not allowed in the US, because they work so well they would cut the size of the back pain market in half. That means less meds, less PT, less follow up visits and less revision surgeries.

I am through mourning Mr Boeree and I am going to redouble my efforts to kick the shit out of the FDA and its American medical industry masters. Join me.

  5. A spine fusion over 10 years ago conducted by Nick Boeree completely changed my life! Prior to this I was in constant agony and pain and ever since the operation by this highly skilled surgeon I have not suffered! What a great and sad loss to the world! My thoughts go out to all of his family.

  6. My life too was changed by this incredibly caring and skilled surgeon, Nick Boeree. I had a double level anterior fusion 10 years' ago by this wonderful man and it helped my pain and discomfort levels a great deal and gave me a life back with my young children. Our love and thoughts are with his family, co-workers and patients, about whom he cared so very much. A new Angel rests with the stars.

  8. Hi Tim,

I'm very sorry about your surgeon passing away, I was very sad when I found out.

How are you feeling? I hope you are improving day by day.

I had surgery three week ago, I'm at home now.

I feel pain in my lumbar, buttocks and hips, I guess it is normal. I will be seeing Dr. Clavel after rehabilitation.
Can you tell me you did the exercises in rehabilitation?

I've also created a blog, you gave me the idea even though I'm not an expert in this topic.

I'd like to be in touch with all the people that have had surgery with the M6 prothesis.

My blog is http://miprotesisdediscom6lumbar.blogspot.com.es/ (it is in spanish, but I think we can understand each other with Google Translate ;-)

    Keep in touch! Best Regards,

    Raquel

  9. been away at university and this tragic news has only just reached me. Nick gave me the chance for a better life after years of pain wearing me down not only physically, but mentally. After I had spinal fusion surgery in 2009 at 21, I went back to college, and I'm now a month away from graduating university, all of which would not have been possible without people like Nick in the world to give you another chance at life. I feel sad for those in the future who are suffering and won't have the same opportunity that I did, such a loss to the world.

  10. Just been looking Nick up to recommend to a friend who needs a disc replacement as I have had in the past. Nick made me feel so relaxed about the whole operation that I would never have trusted anyone else.

What a tragic loss for someone who gave so much to other people, my quality of life changed thanks to Nick and I am devastated for his family and friends.

    Tragic Loss.

  11. Only just discovered this tragic news. Mr Boeree operated on my Scheuermann's kyphosis back in 1996 and I have such fond memories of him.
Where other medical people had dismissed my condition Nicholas Boeree after calmly measuring me told me, yes he could fix me. I have had 22 trouble free years since then and I am eternally grateful to this amazing man.
